Most of us know that it’s important to take care of ourselves during the warmer months, but what about in colder months? Despite the desire to hibernate indoors it’s still important to prioritize self-care. Here are some tips to help you take care of yourself and ensure you remain happy, healthy and stress free during the winter season.

Eat healthy balanced diet

The best form of self-care is fuelling the body by eating nutritious foods. It can help you maintain a good energy level and help you feel better. Focus on eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Avoid sugary drinks and unhealthy snacks that are high in fat.

Drinking plenty of water is essential for your health. The recommended amount of water to drink each day depends on your age and size. Try to drink a glass of water every hour to prevent dehydration and keep yourself hydrated during the winter months.

Winter calendars are filled with festive parties including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s. It is a time when we enjoy lots of rich dishes and sweet treats but a product such as Enterelle Bromatech can help if you over indulge throughout party season.

Look after your skin

The cold temperatures outdoors together with home heating indoors can leave skin feeling irritated, tight and dry throughout the autumn and winter months. Schedule some regular self-care for your skin. As well as staying hydrated by drink plenty of water as already mentioned invest in some moisturising products such as a hydrating facial serum, a nourishing face mask and rich body creams. Even spending an hour each week to pamper yourself will leave you feeling great.

Exercise Regularly

Another excellent form of self-care is exercising regularly. It can be difficult to find motivation when it is freezing outside but it will help boost your mood and reduce stress.  Warm up your muscles before exercising by going for a walk. Dress appropriately for outdoor exercise – remember to layer your clothing so that you can remove or add layers as needed to regulate your body temperature. When it is particularly cold, wear clothes made of moisture-wicking fabric which will help to keep you dry and prevent chills. Wear a hat and gloves to protect yourself from the wind and cold. If you can’t exercise outdoors due to cold temperatures, try doing a workout indoors, such as running on a treadmill or doing some strength training.

Make time of leisure activities

Spending time doing what you love is the greatest form of self-care. Winter is the perfect opportunity for wholesome and heart-warming leisure activities where you can be cosy at home. You may like to cook or bake, light some candles and read a book or enjoy a free spin on your favourite online casino. Winter is a great excuse to wrap up in a blanket and watch some must see movies or binge watch the latest series of your favourite show. Self-care doesn’t always have to be active, sometimes it feels great to relax.

Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep is important for your overall health. Make sure you’re getting at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Go to bed at the same time every night and try to limit the amount of time you spend on your phone or computer before going to bed.

Maintain Social Connections

Maintaining your social connections is important for your overall health. Again, it can be a challenge to motivate yourself to meet up with friends on dark evenings. Try scheduling a catch up on the way home from work or a quick coffee at the weekends. If you’re unable to spend time with them in person, stay in touch through social media or email.
